Be sure to visit my blog where I write about many different aspects of life; family, relationships, writing, healthcare issues, parenting, and every day situations that we all encounter.
After a lifetime of reveling in my great passion for reading - consuming book after book; fiction, non-fiction, drama, romance, mystery, memoir - I discovered a love for writing.
For the past ten years, I have drawn on experiences from my careers in nursing, mental health care, and executive leadership, as well as parenting, single motherhood, and friendships, to write my fiction stories and books. I believe that there is nothing more interesting than real life when it comes to crafting fiction. Real life spans the continuum from heartbreak to hilarity, and stories are everywhere, just waiting to be written.
Today I have a number of published short stories, as well as a novel I co-authored with Timothy Bullard, all of which can be purchased via "my books and short stories" page.
I hope that you will find pleasure in my work, and encouragement from my blog.

Jayne Calvin is a native Floridian who was born and raised on the sandy beaches of Florida’s west coast. Her education includes Masters degrees in mental health counseling, and in healthcare leadership. Many of her best years in both fields were spent giving direct patient care, both as an ICU nurse and a counselor for court ordered perpetrators of domestic violence, as well as suicidal adolescents.
The biggest influence in her life, though, has been raising her two daughters. Her thoughts about mothering, and especially single mothering, are reflected in her short stories.
Her action/suspense novel, co-authored with Dr. Timothy Bullard, provided her with a welcome opportunity to write about complex legal issues.
She and her daughters still call Florida home. Jayne and her soulful dog, Mr. Brown, reside in the center of the state.
Cameron Collins is a businessman of epic dimensions; the skyline of Dallas has been influenced by his hand and his holdings. "A Breach of Immunity" is his story, one that traverses the heartbreak of his only childs death.
"A Breach of Immunity" won 2nd place in the Royal Palm Literary Contest (2009), for unpublished Mainstream novel.
A young woman has an epiphany at a rest stop....a small child loses her first pet...a wife seeks the advice of a fortune teller...the author reflects on tabloid cable shows.
"Grace at the Rest Stop" is a compilation of four short stories from award winning author Jayne Calvin. From tender and thought provoking to often humorous, Jayne Calvin writes about experiences that many of us can relate to.
"The Slap Happy Five and Dime", a short story by Jayne Calvin, reflects upon early childhood experiences and how they reveal the 'inner adult.'
Can a young child truly reveal the traits that will define her later in life? What makes some simple childhood games and play times more memorable than others? Think of your favorite play when you were very young. Does it resemble who you are now?
"The Slap-Happy Five & Dime" received literary recognition from the Florida Writer's Association in 2010, and was a finalist in the Florida Writer's Association contest.
"My Cousin Monica", a short story by Jayne Calvin, crosses the fine line between typical childhood play and the complex world of family dynamics.
After she succumbs to peer pressure, Jayne learns that being true to oneself is more important than gaining the admiration of others.
"My Cousin Monica" received literary recognition from the Florida Writer's Association in 2010, and was a finalist in the Florida Writer's Association contest.
"Above the Bay", is a short story told through the eyes of a child who loses a parent to alcoholism. As adults, we are often able to make sense of the past, but what does the child see in the moment? How does the story move through time with her? How does it shape who she becomes? This story traverses the continuum of family dysfunction, from humor to heartbreak.
"Above the Bay" received literary recognition from the Florida Writer's Association in 2009.
